Serena

We had to say goodbye to our precious ten and a half year old Serena on November 28, 2017. She had overcome severe dehydration and a near life ending liver problem, but she could not overcome her last problem. Our dear vet put her on meds to help with weakened hind legs, and she managed to gain some strength for a few months. Finally she was unable to stand long enough to go outside to the bathroom, and we had to make the difficult decision to let her go. She was brave to the end, never complaining or never seeming to be in pain. We miss her so much and can still see her liquid brown eyes watching our every move. She will be forever in our hearts. She came to us as a six year old former show dog. We had owned another Borzoi that we had found on the side of the road and starving. After he passed, we swore that we would never have another dog because it hurt so much to lose them. Then some church friends who had also had Borzois in the past called to ask if we would like to see a Borzoi that they had rescued. "Just come look at her" they said. As we sat in their backyard, Serena walked over and put her paws on the bench and looked into our eyes with a look that said, "Take me home and love me forever." Ten minutes later we were driving home with her.

She was the perfect dog. Her favorite activity was sleeping. We decided that she was tired after the show circuit and just wanted to rest the reminder of her life. After only a few days with us, she had scoped out her yard and would never step over the line unless she was going for a walk on her lead. She could tell time and never let us oversleep in the morning or forget the exact times she wanted to eat. We will cherish her "Borzoi smiles" when she dried off her wet face on us after a meal and the complete love she gave us every day. We made brown rice and pumpkin biscuits for her and called them "Mommy" bones.

Tom & Sue Faucette Serena Update

Serena is doing so well, and each day she becomes more loving. She is playing with us as well as her toys, and she is the best house dog that we have ever had. She blew her coat about two weeks after we got her, and now a beautiful wavy coat is coming back. Her new vet said that she was in great shape and has her on an internal flea preventive. She has gained about 5 lbs from the reported weight in her previous vet papers and eats well.

We take walks in the neighborhood, and all our friends love her too. She is great at meeting and greeting and shows no interest in the neighborhood dogs or cats. We have found that she is very afraid of umbrellas, so we have to break out the raincoats to walk in the rain. She was also afraid of someone grabbing her collar but is doing much better with this. We figure that in both cases someone really abused her with an umbrella or grabbed her by the collar and hurt her. For awhile she was timid around men, but we have overcome that too. She has made incredible progress in two and a half months and continues to surprise us every day with her smiles and puppy like behavior. Thank you so much for letting us be her forever parents.

Serena has found a forever home

Here is Serena. She will be 6 years old in July. As you can see, she is a lovely, sweet Girl. Serena is spayed and current on everything including heart worm prevention. She is currently being fostered in TN. Serena is special needs because she has a heart condition but is expected to live a normal life. She will do best in a home with no cats, small dogs or young children. She would be fine in a walking home.
