It's been a while since we've checked in with NBRF Lucky 13 rescue Zane - now known forever as Murray. In early June, shortly after his rescue, Murray suffered a terrible accident. He sustained a broken humerus bone to his left leg. Due to the location of the break, it was supported only by the plate and the pin, and he was on restricted movement for eight weeks.
"He had his 8 week post-surgery xrays and exam in July and ended up going back to have his pin removed on 7/29. He needed another couple of weeks of restriction on activity after that and is now starting to play loose in our yard. He’s healing pretty well but sometimes over exerts himself (like yesterday when he threw himself at a fence because he has no brakes and forgot how to turn? ). He’s so chill for a puppy that it’s a little shocking to see him suddenly cavort around the yard from a standstill.
He’s finally allowed to learn stairs and is getting pretty good but won’t try the carpeted basement stairs yet even though that’s the way to all the dog food.
Murray is an enormous sweetheart. He leans so hard for scritches that he risks falling if we move. He checks in for hugs. He’ll sit in our laps when we’re on the floor.
He loves our very playful greyhound and is properly intimidated by our galgo who still doesn’t approve of the new kid.
Murray sometimes worries about strangers but I think that’ll get better as he gets to go on walks. He’s not leash safe yet, though, so walks are short until he learns good manners.
We adore him. He’s an ideal fit between our two sighthounds: chill enough to not stress out the galgo and goofy enough to match the greyhound at play, snuggly for us when we need fluffy hugs. Just happy and sweet and fun.
Our daughter calls him Greg, we call him Bubby. He’s a boy with infinite names and endless love to share."
Murray is a boy who has the world by the tail! He's recovered and healed and can now be a puppy! His family LOVES him, he LOVES his family and we see a very bright future ahead for this sweet soul. Thank you, Jackie and family for your patience and dedication! It is a monumental task to bring a young dog through an injury this severe. This update makes our hearts sing!
Look who gets to be a PUPPY!! We are so happy for you, Murray!! Long may you play!
