"9 years ago, Enzo Furrari's journey home got ever closer as a commercial rescue transport pulled into the parking lot of a Tractor Supply in a little town called Griswold, CT. I had been waiting there for what seemed like hours. As the truck pulled into the parking lot I excitedly texted to David at home "He's HERE!!". It had been a long wait for it is no easy task to arrange transport from Arizona to Maine and those two words contained all of the hope, love and excitement we had been feeling for weeks.
Enzo exited the trailer confused and tired but he was with me and the last leg of his 3,000 mile road trip home had begun. We spent the next couple of hours meandering through a beautiful state park just two exits up the road, winding down. And when he told me that he had had enough of traveling that day we cuddled up at a LaQuinta Inn for the night. Outgoing and sweet, Enzo greeted everyone on our journey with a smile and a lean. It was an early glimpse of the enthusiasm and joy for life that is Enzo.
We met David and Lexi at "our" park just steps down the road from home for their introductions. Lexi was healing a torn tendon in her left, front paw but that did nothing to tamp her excitement as the four of us walked home forever together. They bonded immediately.
And the rest, as it is said, is history!
Thank you Carol Backers and the National Borzoi Rescue Foundation for the privilege of being chosen as Enzo's family! From the first moment, we were meant to be; a perfect match for us! Our family, our lives would be so much less without him.
Happy Gotcha Day Enzo Furrari, our handsome, handsome boy! We love you with all our hearts ❤️
